Tonight we travelled to play our final away fixture of the season versus league contenders Cove BC at Aulton. Cove as you can imagine were well up for this match not only for the three points on offer but also some revenge in mind for the 3-1 defeat we inflicted on them earlier in the season. Although they started the match with great urgency and intent our lads rode the early storm and once we calmed down and started to pass the ball about we went on to play a really good match against opponents who have had a terrific season thus far. Having told the lads pre-match that if we can follow on from Sunday's performance football wise and show a good workrate then another good result is more than possible. This seemed to sink into the lads minds as they went onto produce one heck of a match borne out of a good level of football coupled with great effort and commitment and with not a lot between the two teams it made a very entertaining and hard fought encounter with the only real effort first half being when Jordan Ogg palmed a good effort from the striker onto the post and away to safety, H-T 0-0.
Second half was more of the same but with more goalmouth action and we had Jordan Ogg to thank on a few occasions with some saves which were right out of the top drawer. We had chances of our own as well though the best being a good freekick by Liam Ferguson lofted into the box and headed on by Aidan Bowie to Jonny Buist who turned brilliantly and flashed a shot (which seemed net bound from where i was standing) which was so close and went agonisingly wide. As the game wore on our lads seemed to be the team more likely to break the deadlock such was the way they were going about their business but with only four minutes remaining we were hit by a Cove attack and dealt a sickening blow as they took an undeserved lead and left our lads totally shellshocked and shattered at the final whistle, and rightly so as they had given a performance and shown the commitment that we all are very proud of and leave tonight with their heads firmly in the air, if only we could have been more consistant with this sort of performances then who knows what might of been. F-T 1-0.
Overall, Although robbed of a result which i don't think anyone with any heart would have grudged us a point given the effort the lads put in. I can't help but feel positive knowing the standards these lads are capable of and if we can retain them all for the new season then it promises to be one to look forward very much to. Man of the match, not taking anything away from any of the lads who were all excellent , Ritchie Gibb had an excellent first half, Billy Blanchard and Liam Ferguson covering every blade of grass, Jordan Ogg deserves great credit for three stunning saves that were top drawer but Lee Inglis just shades it tonight with an excellnt performance at the back and hardly put a foot wrong all night. Very proud of you all, Well done lads !!
