Huntly travelled to Hazelhead today to play a Cove team who we beat at home a few weeks ago. In fact that was our last win, so hopes were high. Claire was stand in manager today and was forced into a couple of changes. Steven was away for the weekend and Daniel was out through injury. With Gary filling in at left back and Grant coming in the centre, the defence were looking to keep things tight at the back. The game KO with Huntly pressing for the game's 1st goal. Huntly created a few half chances but against the run of play Cove broke away and finished with a goal 1-0. Huntly replied instantly with a great run and cross down the right from Ross which
Liam scored with a fine effort 1-1. Huntly were well on top now and playing some good football. Jamie then had a good shot before
Liam scored his second of the game when he chased down a throw in and finshed well 1-2.
Half time with huntly well on top but wary of the Cove break aways.
Huntly KO second half looking for more goals and pressing the game well. Cove nearly got back in from a breakaway and it needed a last ditch tackle from Gary to thwart the Cove striker.
Gary then did the damage at the other end with a stunning shot into the top corner to make it 1-3. By now it was all Huntly who were well on top. Claire took the opportunity to put on Craig for his 1st game back from injury. The fourth goal came from a Cove goal kick Connor won a header in midfield on to Liam who flicked it on and
Jamie with a good finish made it 1-4. 5th goal came with a run and cross from Gary and another good finish from
Jamie.
Final score 1-5.
At last, a result to match a great performance. One of James's quieter games but what he did, he did well. The defence all played well and kept it nice and tight at the back. Midfield got stuck in and won their fair share of the ball. We had great wing play down both sides which resulted in our two strikers getting the goals. It was great to see Craig back and we wish Daniel a speedy recovery. Onto Tues with confidence high and if we play the same again another 3 points is on the cards.
Players man of the match today was Ross Mackie
