"A bad day at the office" was how coach Hamish Cameron described Saturday's 12-4 defeat to newly crowned league chamions Cove.
A battling first half performance couldnt be maintained into the second half and Cove cruelly exposed the defensive short-comings of the side to score seven in the second half without reply.
Huntly had started well and took the lead in the 8th minute when a long throw in from Clark was headed into his own net from a Cove defender under pressure from Dorrat.
However the lead wasn't to last long and Cove equalised five minutes later when failure to clear their lines allowed the home team to score.
Cove then took the lead when a fine through ball was dispatched with ease.
Huntly fought back and Sam CLARK pulled one back when he scored with a fine shot from a tight angle following a corner.
However poor defending from a Cove corner allowed the home side to regain their two goal advantage and that was increased when the Huntly defence was again carved open.
Scott LAW reduced the lee-way again when he was on hand to hook the ball into the net when it landed at his feet following a corner and a further own goal gave Huntly hope to make the half time escore 5-4.
The least said about the second half the better as Cove ran riot and seemed to score at will. Time and again they cut through the visitors defence and punished any mistakes with ease.
Huntly have one fixture remaining, at home to Ellon next Saturday and will be looking to finish the season in style. Fifth place is guaranteed but may not be enough to clinch first division football next season although there is a possibility of re-organisation.
