Today we travelled to Skene to play Stoneywood Ajax who we had recently defeated in a previous home match, with both sides recording very similar results to date the incentive was there for us, as all three points in this one would have enhanced our chances greatly of a third place finish. However sadly for us in what was probably our most important match of the run-in we went on to deliver in my opinion our worst display of the season to date, going down 5-1 to a very ordinary Stoneywood side who themselves were no great shakes football wise, but credit to them they were the team today who wanted it more. It completely baffles me how on Tuesday night we can perform as well as we did , showing great team spirit and determination against in my view a far superior footballing side than today's opponents then five days later deliver such a heartless, deflated and lacklustre performance. In this game it doesn't just happen for you lads, you have to go and make it happen but we simply just didn't turn up today and let an ordinary Stoneywood side bully us all over the pitch, had this been a boxing match it would have been stopped long before the end, thats how far out of the match and off the pace we were today. We did have a good goal scored by Billy Blanchard, but it proved too little too late . Our passing game and movement off the ball was non existant, we couldn't clear our lines at the back and all over the pitch resorted to lunge into and lump first time balls up into the air as if we were playing with a hot tattie, and its the first time Ive had to apologise to the opposition coach for not even providing them with a decent game. Yes its very disappointing given our recent good form and results but having witnessed the pain etched on the players faces at the end knowing that they had let themselves down, then I'd rather draw a line under this performance and simply put it down to a bad day at the office. We don't turn a bad team overnight lads and Ive every confidence in you to turn this one around, because any more performances like today's are simply way below the standard expected of HYFC.
