Yesterdays match versus FDS at the Meadows Huntly served up a seven goal classic with both teams playing attractive football and having a real go at each other as both looked to secure fourth place. The match got off to the worst possible start for us when with only five minutes in and only their second attack, FDS found themselves in the lead when a dangerous ball into the box was not cleared properly and FDS reacted quickest to the loose ball and knocked it past Jordan Ogg in goal 0-1. A worst possible start for us of which lessons must be learned. However the lads forced themselves back into the match as they went on to play some decent stuff and seeing good spells of possesion being rewarded when Aidan Bowie played in James Brooks who brilliantly beat two defenders before smashing home the equaliser 1-1. We went on to produce further chances and pegging our opponents back, but they were still dangerous on the break as we soon found to our cost when they took the lead again, this time with a good finish. 1-2. With both teams commited to playing good football and play raging from end to end we managed to equalise again just on the stroke of half time when good work by Andrew Munro played in Billy Blanchard who showed good movement and touches before smashing past the keeper. H-T 2-2.
Second half was more of the same and a really good match to watch with our lads going on to enjoy the bulk of possesion however when we did lose the ball FDS were showing good movement and touches and getting forward in numbers with runs we were failing to match at times and we were soon to find ourselves trailing again with 2 goals in quick succession which were disappointing ones for us to lose through just failing to clear our lines, 2-4. However the lads refused to give up and stuck to the task well being rewarded just minutes from the end when Liam Ferguson with one of his now trademark freekicks superbly curled the ball over the keepers head and into the net, 3-4.This inspired the lads again but it just proved too late in the match to get anything from it and finished F-T 3-4.
Overall a good match to be involved in with our lads playing good football in spells and scoring three good goals, however the manner in which we continue to ship cheap goals (collectively as a team) at the other end is giving us cause for concern and inevitably costing us vital points aswell. Some good performances with James Brooks providing some good stuff before having to leave the field with injury, also good midfield performances from midfielders Liam Ferguson & Liam Henderson well marshalled today but man of the match Billy Blanchard who showed great commitment, enthusiusm and good touches throughout.
