FDS v Huntly 14's Empty
PostSubject: FDS v Huntly 14's   FDS v Huntly 14's Icon_minitimeTue Feb 24, 2009 7:06 am

After another long enforced layoff due to the recent bad weather we finally were on our travels to Hazelhead to take on Futebol De Salao and although minus two or three regular performers it was a chance for a few lads who have been on the fringes to stake their claim for regular action. The match however was only 5 minutes old when we found ourselves one down after a great turn and shot from the edge of the box left Jordan with no chance 1-0. FDS found instant confidence from this and went on the accendency, only to find our back five especially Jordan Ogg in good form stretching full length to fingertip a fierce shot over the crossbar. However our defending proved not so clever as an inswinging corner kick was met by a free header at the near post which allowed FDS to bullet home and extend their lead 2-0. In a strange way this seemed to rally our lads who then went on to play some good stuff , eventually being rewarded when Aiden Bowie fired home after a good through ball from Matthew Anderson ,with only a minute remaining of the first half we would have been happy to go in at half-time one goal down but in quite bizarre fashion our lads were caught napping and allowed FDS to stroll through and nick another just on the stroke of half time HT 3-1. After some stern words at halftime our lads began the second half on top forcing FDS on the backfoot and on another day might have found ourselves right back in the match but our final ball into the box was letting us down at times , FDS however were still proving to be dangerous on the counter and were awarded a soft freekick on the edge of our box, which was lofted in and met by another free header to make it 4-1. This knocked the stuffing from the lads and had the opposite effect on our opponents who were now right in the mood and went on to add numbers five and six 6-1. Give the lads their due they battled on and were rewarded just before the end with a consolation when Craig Jones snap shot at goal bobbled just in front of the keeper and ended in the back of the net. FT 6-2. Overall just pleased to get the lads back on grass, very disappointing result, although we played well for spells but were poor at other times and the most disappointing thing for us was the obvious lack of self belief and will to win (fire in the bellies) on show ,which Im sure had it been there this match would have ended much closer, however Im confident that given a run of matches those ingredients will return. Very pleasing to see Matthew Anderson,Liam Henderson and Muir Gregor put in performances that will stand them in good stead for future matches. Man of the Match however was Jack Duncan who happens to possess all aforementioned ingredients and more and is beginning to show real leadership qualities with another fine performance. Todays Team :- 1/ Jordan Ogg, 2/Ritchie Gibb, 3/Muir Gregor, 4/Jack Duncan, 5/Lee Inglis, 6/Matthew Anderson, 7/Andrew Munro, 8/Billy Blanchard, 9/Mark Johnstone, 10/James Brooks, 11/Aiden Bowie, Subs 12/ Liam Robertson, 14/Liam Henderson, 15/ Craig Jones.
