Yesterday we finally brought the curtain down on what has been a very enjoyable and successful first season for us, guiding, who can only be described as a great bunch of lads who ve been a real pleasure to work with. Ironically our final opponents at the Meadows were MBC, the team that inflicted a painful defeat on us in the very first match of the season. Given the long hard season since, the lads could have been spared for just winding down the campaign with not much to spare, but ,they had revenge in mind and the chance to erase the memories of our first day defeat, coupled with the opportunity to pay back their parents and relatives (who have shown great loyalty,, commitment and support which was second to none throughout the year) with a display of good football and a good solid performance that we again can all be proud of.
The lads immediately pushed MBC onto the backfoot going on to create one or two early chances before good work by Craig Jones allowed James Brooks to play in Matthew Anderson who made no mistake with a good finish on 8mins. 1-0. Two minutes later we extended our lead when a corner kick was played back to the taker James Brooks who chipped the ball brilliantly, finding Billy Blanchard at the near post who finished superbly, 2-0. The lads were well in control of the match by now but then were guilty of some sloppy play whilst taking the eye off the ball and allowed our opponents to hit back with a good finish by the striker 2-1. Moments later though we were back in control thanks to an excellent run and strike by the now on fire Matthew Anderson (who seemed well up for this match). The lads were again playing with confidence and in 32 mins went on to score the goal of the match when a Jordan Ogg throw out was followed by good work from Ritchie Gibb and Liam Robertson sending Matthew Anderson on a terrific run down the right and had only one thing on his mind as he chipped it well out of the keepers reach for a superb finish, and to compete a quick fire hatrick. H-T 4-1.
Second half saw us make some changes to the team whilst trying to give everyone at least a half and maintain our shape at the same time, and although it seemed to slow proceedings down the lads were still playing some good stuff and were rewarded when Aidan Bowie was sent down the left and although his first attempt was saved by the keeper he was first to react to prod home the rebound 5-1. Just as the match drew to a close it was left to two lads who had just re-entered play to finish off the scoring when an excellent run down the left by Liam Robertson, saw him look up and pick out Craig Jones who scored a well deserved goal for his performance with a shot low into the corner, FT 6-1.
Overall a pleasing way to end the season with the lads showing great effort and comittment towards a good solid all round display and some good goals into the bargain.
Top performances again from Jordan Ogg and his defence of Ritchie, Jack, Lee and Jonny(who I wish we'd had earlier) and who have now all developed a good understanding , midfield trio Liam F, Billy and Liam H again all worked their socks off supplying and supporting good running on the flanks by Liam Robertson and Andrew Munro, and then we have Aidan Bowie up front who always guarantees 100% and usually a goal or two, But best today were Craig Jones who stuck in well and grabbed a good goal for himself and James Brooks for his trickery and creative play now picking out a pass at the right time, but I dont think anyone can argue on todays man of the match Matthew Anderson, who simply lit the touch paper with a sensational first half and for what ever he had for breakfast ,I sure want some of that. Well done lads its been a real pleasure and we look forward to working with you all again next season.
