Huntly 14's v Stoneywood Ajax Empty
PostSubject: Huntly 14's v Stoneywood Ajax   Huntly 14's v Stoneywood Ajax Icon_minitimeTue Mar 31, 2009 10:21 am

Yesterday's match with Stoneywood Ajax had all the makings of a good but rather tough encounter with both teams producing similar results in the league to date.It became clear right from the off that our opponents were well up for this and really fancied their chances of taking all three points, but credit to our lads who had other ideas and soon found themselves in the lead when James Brooks produced some trickery on the right before sending a good ball in to the opposition area which was only half cleared before landing at the feet of Liam Henderson who,s clever shot at goal , looped over the advancing keepers head and in to the net 1-0. Stoneywood however showed a good response to going behind as they began to insert some real pressure upon us eventually getting their rewards while drawing level with a good goal 1-1. This seemed to send our lads into a nervous spin as we entered our poorest spell of the match and struggled to get out of our own half at times, finally succumbing to the pressure when Stoneywood scored again much to the delight of their now vocal followers .Make no mistake we did well to stay in the match at the break as we rode our luck at times and had some steely defending and goalkeeper Jordan Ogg to thank for some good stops. HT 1-2. Second half saw us introduce trialist Jonny Buist for his first taste of action with us, playing on the left hand side, he made an instant impact getting beyond the opponents defence on a few occasions and either working the keeper or sending some beautiful crosses into the box, his impact seemed to spark the lads into action as they went on to take a real stranglehold of the match when Andrew Munro was sent clear on the right and his good control and low shot into the corner produced the goal of the match 2-2 . You could sense there was only going to be one winner from there as the lads were now brimming with confidence and pushing for a winner when Liam Robertson, sent on to inject some pace to the forward line was bundled from behind by the keeper just inside the box. This resulted in their keeper being red carded and gave us the opportunity to go in front via the penalty spot however for the brave Liam Ferguson ( who i'd put money on scoring 9 times out of 10) this was the one that got away as he shot just over the crossbar. His reaction however was spot on as was that of his teammates when with just minutes to go the brilliant Jonny Buist sent a good ball into the box which was met on the half volley by Liam Ferguson who's shot was saved by the keeper and could only fall to James Brooks who calmly rolled it into the net to complete another fine comeback.F T 3-2 . This capped a tremendous second half performance by all the lads and a very impressive dedut by Jonny Buist but man of the match goes to Billy Blanchard (who just keeps improving) ,for another fine midfield performance showing great enthusiusm, commitment and leadership qualities. The only sour note to a good match was the behaviour of the Stoneywood camp at the end who just didn't take the defeat too well and their cheering when Liam missed his penalty, swearing in the company of thirteen year olds and venting anger towards not only the referee was all bang out of order and just makes you wonder what goes on in their crazy little minds. Team :- 1/ Jordan Ogg, 2/Ritchie Gibb, 3/ Aiden Bowie, 4/ Jack Duncan,5/ Lee Inglis, 6/Liam Ferguson, 7/ Andrew Munro, 8/ Billy Blanchard, 9/ James Brooks, 10/ Matthew Anderson, 11/ Liam Henderson, 12/ Liam Robertson, 14/ Jonny Buist.
