With mike away today on child berth duties and mark and claire unavailable it was left down to caretaker manager Jim '3 puddings' stephen fresh from his kevin keegan masterclass course to take the reins today at the bridge of don. With his Aberdeen bonnet on he paraded up and down the touchline all morning in Jimmy Calderwood fashion urging his troops on. An even start to the game with no team gaining a real advantage and it was 5 minutes in before Huntly first threatened with Ross finding a way in to the box but his shot was blocked and muggiemoss scrambled the ball away. Muggiemoss first threatened 5 minutes later with a quick breakaway and their striker rounded gary who was in goal today instead of james who was away on international duty( he had a wedding in Wales) only to find his shot cleared off the line by neil. with 15 minutes on the clock liam had a snap shot from the edge of the box but got no real power behind it and the keeper managed to save easily.Huntly were 1-0 down in 19 minutes when a low cross from the right was missed by everyone inside our box and allowed the muggiemoss striker the easiest of finishes at the back post.Huntly thgreatened again in 26 minutes when ross was released down the left and crossed in, darren got his head to it but again it ended up an easy save for their keeper. Muggiemoss still pressing to extend their lead carved open our defence again with a good through ball but gary was quickly off his line and did enough to make the striker hurry his shot and place it well wide of target.Just before half time huntly had their best move of the half as liam won the ball in the middle and scooped a ball wide to ross, ross played it first time to jamie who cleverly played it first time in to the path of darren who was baring down inside the box just to be crowded out before he had the chance to shoot. Half Time 1-0.
The second half started with not much to note and 10 minutes in manager stephen changed things a little bringing connor on in place of darren and moved liam back up front. 15 minutes in to the second half and muggiemoss got their second goal of the game from a through ball which allowed their striker through to round gary and place it easily in the back of the net. their scorer looked way offside for the goal but our boys were to busy claiming for the offside instead of playing to the whistle and connor ended up with a booking for letting his feelings known to the ref. With 5 minutes left on the clock huntly dragged themselves back in with a chance when jamie now playing centre mid played a fantastic ball through to ross who entered the box before crossing low in to the middle, their keeper could only parry the ball in to the path of liam , who scrambled the ball over the line, 2-1. Huntly were pushing forward in search of an leveller and it was jamie was again who played the ball forward to liam , liam drove forward but played the ball to the right to iain who was surrounded a little by their players when in fact if he had played the ball to the left to ross who was free , ross would of had a clear run in on goal but instead muggiemoss regained possesion and moved the ball quickly upfield , and with our defence pushing a high line managed to get in behind them and rounded our keeper gary and squared the ball for an easy tap in to complete the scoring. 3-1 full time.
the defence acctually had a good game today and looked solid enough but until jamie went back in to centre mid we lacked any kind penetrating edge. to many ball were played up front in hope rather than in purpose looking for anyone in particular. Huntly's man o the match today was Daniel, who putting his recent breathing difficulty's aside and produced a solid performance at left back. He won countless challenges and was never scared to go for a 50/50 ball and won more than his fair share of them We were still too quiet on the park with not enough shouting going on and we all long for the team to perform the way we know that they can do as they have proved before. but being without several players did not help and the fact we had only 1 sub on the bench today.
We have the vale next on tues and who knows that might be the game to spark them back to life.
Even after the result manager Stephen was quite happy to let the boys off on a bonding session if they wished to do so with a few bottles of fruit shoot but a curfew of 10am, sorry make that 10pm being set.
Roll on the vale on tues!!!!!!!!!!!
