Today we played A league side Banchory BC in the third round of the SR Wood trophy at Mcrobert Park Aberchirder.
Having been idle for the past eight weeks it was just a relief to get the boys much needed match action under their belts again.
Sadly our performance today reflected on the long lay off forced upon us and was certainly one of the rusty variety.
The match got off to the worst possible start as Banchory pushed forward from the off and surprisingly found themselves one up within two minutes when slack play and lack of communication allowed them to fire home from close range. Credit it to the lads though they dug in and began to find their feet again creating a few chances of their own which on another day might have seen us go in level at the break.
H-T 0-1.
Second half saw the lads continue to battle and to be fair were matching the A league side in that department but a gulf in sharpness was beginning to emerge and we rode our luck at times when Banchory were beginning to pick holes in our defensive play and we had Jordan Ogg to thank on a few occasions. Again due to lack off communication causing a mix up in our defence however allowed Banchory to increase their lead with a fine strike. 0-2. This effectively ended the match as a contest and they rounded it off with a free kick from around thirty yards which proved too high for Jordan to save as it looped in just under the crossbar. F-T 0-3.
Overall a disappointing result following a very rusty performance not helped much by our failure to communicate with each other although pleased to get some match action at long last and hopefully a wee run of games now can regain our match sharpness and better reults will inevitably follow.Top performers today were Jack Duncan, Ritchie Gibb and Billy Blanchard who all showed great enthusiasm but man of the match was Jordan Ogg for some fine stops which kept us in the match for so long. There was also encouraging debuts for Liam Robertson and Grant Cumming who could prove to be valuable additions to our squad.

Todays team:- 1/ Jordan Ogg 2/Ritchie Gibb 3/ Aidan Bowie 4/ Jack Duncan 5/ Lee Inglis 6/ Liam Ferguson 7/ Andrew Munro 8/ Michael Green 9/ Mark Johnston 10/ Aidan Bowie 11/ James Brooks 12/ Billy Blanchard 14/ Liam Robertson 15/ Liam Henderson 16/ Grant Cumming 17/ Muir Gregor
