Huntly cruised to a 5-1 win at Portlethen today and it could easily have been double figures if the strikers had taken their chances. Nevertheless it was a good win on a bumpy and uneven surface.
Huntly took the game to the home team from the off and Law went close with an overhead kick which just went past the post. The same player then just failed to get on the end of a Dorrat cross but Clark MORRISON showed the strikers how to do it in the 15th minute when he came in at the back post to convert a McIntosh cross.
The opener seemed to settle Huntly and they scored a second when Scott LAW pounced when the keeper failed to gather a Dorrat shot to put Huntly 2-0 ahead.
Huntly then dominated the remainder of the first half but some poor finishing after some good build up play meant the score remained the same at half time.
Huntly came out in the second half in determined fashion and in the 45th minute Greg DORRAT scored a fine goal when he got on the end of a Clark free kick and volleyed over the advacing keeper.
Lewis HENDRY than scored the goal of the game two minutes later when he made space for himself twenty yards out and hit a glorious shot into the net.
Huntly then laid siege to the home team's goal but a combination of good goalkeeping and erratic finishing prevented a goal feast.
Portlethen pulled one back in the 65th minute with a fine strike from the edge of the box which gave Ross no chance but LAW got his second and Huntly's fifth two minutes later when a fine inswinging corner from Chalmers landed at his feet and he gratefully knocked the ball over the line.
At the end of the day three points were earned and a comfortable win secured but missed chance may cost points against better teams.
