Round 1 of the Scottish Cup saw Huntly 14s host Colony Colts, a difficult game to judge in advance, as last year, when 13s, the team lost away and won at home.
Any fears were quickly dispelled though as Huntly took an early 1-0 lead minutes after the whistle. After this it was pretty much one way traffic, with the match rarely out of Colony's half.
Huntly continued to make a multitude of chances, but unfortunately failed to score again during the half.
HT 1-0
Second period the lads continued in the same vein, again rarely out of Colony's half, but this time it started paying off, and the goals mounted up.
The match was a pleasure to watch, with the lads keeping the ball down, moving, picking out passes, actually talking to each other more, and in the light of this, any criticisms would seem churlish, but here goes...let's call them observations rather than criticisms...
You really need to be more clinical in finishing. Had you been so, without any disrespect to Colony, the game would easily have finished in double figures.
Passing, look for the easy pass, look for the man in space, too often you're trying to go through traffic and making life harder than it needs to be.
Lastly, you seem to take a while to get going. Early nights (Facebook & Xboxes off), before matches needed perhaps?
Anyway, those minor observations aside, an excellent game, a well deserved & convincing win, and the performance and goals will undoubtedly build confidence.
