After the long winter lay-off, the 14s got underway again away to Culter Colts. Both sides having had similar results so far, it could have been a tricky tie, but it turned out to be a fairly simple day out.
As might be expected the lads took a little while to get back into the swing of things, and it was midway through the 1st half before any real chance was created with a well weighted through ball from the right edge of the box from full back Bremner to set up a well positioned Reilly for an easy tap in. 1-0
Shortly after, with play coming from the left wing Higgins made it 2-0.
The lads appeared to be getting into full swing, when a bit of miscommunication allowed Culter one of their first chances, which just, probably, crossed the line.
HT 2-1 for Huntly.
The second half started quite scrappily with Culter doing well to break up the rhythm Huntly had shown before the break, and their efforts paid off, with a very similar effort to their 1st half goal beating the keeper, and Bremner who got back to clear the ball off the line couldn’t stop the goal being awarded, although he does say that it didn’t cross the line. Nevertheless, 2-2.
However, that was pretty much the last threat from Culter, as the lads settled again, got the ball down on the ground, continued to press the game & produced some excellent passing play. Good work down the left from Alexander, Reilly & Donaldson, and excellent running & positioning through the centre from Whyte, was soon paying dividends, and a good ball in from a Donaldson corner saw Higgins connect with his head. 3-2, and it wasn’t long after when Donaldson won and converted a penalty. 4-2
A good showing from the lads, especially after a long inactive period.
FT 4-2, another 3 points, and up to 4th in the league I think. Although at the time of writing the League website didn’t appear to have this match score.
