Today the lads had to endear the long trek South of Aberdeen to face Stonehaven YFC who proved to be one of our toughest tests to date. Having performed very well against Cove last week we looked to gain confidence and to build on that perfomance. The match got off to a bright start from both teams with early chances coming from both ends, although Stonehaven looked to be well up for the physical battle and i don't mean that in a dirty way. Stonehaven drew first blood on 18 minutes when Huntly failed to clear a loose ball in the box and the Stonehaven forward pounced and finished well, shooting high into the net. 1-0. 2 minutes later Huntly was level when striker Aidan Bowie battled for possesion wide on the right and unleashed a thunderous drive from about 25 yards out which left the goalkeeper with no chance, 1-1. Stonehaven were beginning to get the better of the midfield battle, winning the bulk of 50-50 challenges and first on the loose ball and were duly rewarded with their second of the match courtesy of another good finish. James Brooks was unlucky not to have us level again on two occasions, the first being a long range effort which curled just wide of the post and another move saw him in on goal only for the keeper to make a good save.
half-time 2-1.
Second half we knew we had to get in their faces and close them down quicker and we really had to score the next goal of the match but with the now strong wind in their faces, faced an uphill battle and Stonehaven did to us second half what we did to Cove last week and took a real strangle hold of the match scoring around 10 minutes into the second half and again adding to that just at the end to make the score line a dissapointing 4-1 reverse.
Overall after the highs of last weeks the lads were dissapointed at the end of this one knowing they have played much better in recent weeks, today we were well off the pace against a very eager Stonehaven side who's movement and passing was enthralling at times.
Man of the match with the defence having the best of the match today, they all battled well to break down waves of attacks,Aidan Bowie had a tremendous first half and Jordan Oggs handling again was good but man of the match this week goes to a wee guy with a very big heart Jack Duncan, he strolled through this match against a guy much taller than himself, reading the game very well and with never say die defending broke up so many Stonehaven attacks. Keep your head up lads we dont turn a bad team overnight and more highs will be round the corner.
