Yesterday we faced the long trek to Stonehaven to play their swifts side whose results to date have been a bit erratic to say the least. With a long players unavailable list easing slightly we welcomed back Jordan Ogg in goal and Liam Robertson to the starting line up also. The lads started the match well enough on a very tight pitch with humps and bumps on it more suitable for rolling easter eggs than playing football, however the same old story prevails after failing to capitilise on early chances, we duly sit off and allow the opposition into the match then on 15 mins find ourselves a goal down when a long ball over the top caught us out for the swifts to take the lead with a good finish. 1-0.
Our lads response to this was excellent as they went on to score three goals in the space of 5 mins following good play down the left saw Aidan Bowie in on the keeper to hammer home the equiliser 1-1,three mins later a good ball over the top from Liam Ferguson was again controlled and finished well by Aidan Bowie 1-2, with the lads now full of confidence and pushing forward Matthew Anderson found himself in on goal following a neat passing move and his superb finish made it 1-3. Moments later a brilliant run down the left by the inform Jonny Buist and his perfect cross into the danger area failed to find someone on the end of it which would have all but ended the match as a contest. The swifts were having none of it though and were going to make a game of it and with 5 mins to half time pulled one back with another good finish 2-3, they were by now back in the match and pushing us onto the backfoot winning a corner kick, and following a game of ping pong in our box and us failing to clear the ball it found it's way into the net to make it H-T 3-3.
Second half was much better from us taking control of the match and creating a few chances, a good corner kick sent over by Jonny Buist was brilliantly headed on by Jack Duncan finding Ritchie Gibb at the back post but his effort just went wide, then an excellent run in on goal by Liam Robertson following a good through ball by trialist Jay Inglis ( who kindly stood in today as cover on the bench) but again the chance went agonisingly wide. further chances by James Brooks,Billy Blanchard and Jay himself failed to find the net and you just began to think it wasn't to be our day when Aidan Bowie re-entered the play replacing Liam Robertson who had ran himself to the ground with 10 mins to go and found himself sent through brilliantly by the left foot of Muir Gregor and Aidan Bowie ran on to fire low past the keeper to complete a superb hatrick and gain another valuable three points following our second half performance. overall delighted with the three points and with the lads for grinding out results giving some are asked to multi task position wise to get us through this tough spell (Matthew,Aidan(R/May),Ritchie,Liam F). Best for us today were the steady Jack Duncan and the impressive Jonny Buist but with my assistant for today (Mike) choosing Aidan Bowie for the man of the match , showing all the determination required to get results at this stage of the season, OH! and a superb hatrick especially given he re-entered play in the final minutes to complete it. Well done lads !
