A beautiful morning in Huntly saw an under strength Huntly side meet Stonehaven for the first time since December.
Stonehaven started the brighter side, creating several early chances which tested both the Huntly keeper and the re-arranged defence, but the lads stood firm, soaked up the pressure, and were soon holding their own & creating their own chances with a couple of excellent through balls & finishes, which saw the half finish 2-0.
2nd half brought more of the same, with Stonehaven pressuring & quickly drawing level, the match then turned into a hard fought contest which could have gone either way.
The lads though continued to work hard, absorbing some meaty challenges along the way, but with a clear penalty decision turned down, and several clear offside decisions missed which lead to Stonehaven breaking & testing the keeper, it was starting to look ominously like it wasn't to be Huntlys day.
However, the lads kept their heads up, kept organised, & some well worked pressure saw a free kick awarded (probably should have been a penalty) on the edge of the box which was slotted home comfortably.
A good match, if nerve wracking for the spectator, which saw the lads working really hard as a team to grind out a deserved result against a strong and well organised Stonehaven side.
FT 3-2 - Reilly 2 Higgins 1
I’m trying at the moment in these short reports not to single out any individual players for praise, but mention should be made of the trialist Liam (sorry I don’t know your second name) who looks like he could be a good addition to the team. Holding the ball up and linking well with the other forwards. A good debut.
