If they do take 3 thats at least 2 aberdeenshire teams. Not sure if thats good for the game. If its the one I hope they go for strathspey. I take it the north teams would favour them due to travel costs. Banks are the only club who right now are ready to play. Same as annan with the spl vote.

Would be dissapointed if Banks O Dee get in.
Another City team is not required in my view as there is no great support base for them to turn up at Christie Park or any Highland League ground in numbers. Cove their only exception.
Also there are issues with regards to getting Parked at the Ground even though they have a Car Park.
The Ground all week is used for other sports and the Car Park is always jammed full
and it would be fun trying to get a Bus manovered with ease.
Even on a Monday night with U21s getting unloaded is a pain.
Just dont want to see another City Club in the Highland League.
To me its a Highland league and dont want to see anything heading towards a
Aberdeenshire league in the future which i would see as a joke.
Nothing to do with the fact they beat us earlier in the season.
Cove wont want them either as that may effect there gate.

PostSubject: 3 teams to get in   Highland League New Clubs - Page 2 Icon_minitimeFri Feb 20, 2009 7:34 pm

It's looking like we'll be having 3 new teams next season. it was reported that 9 out of the 15 Highland League sides voted for 3 new teams to come in for the start of 2009/10 season.

so three out of the following will be facing ourselves:
Banks O' Dee
Formartine United
Strathspey Thistle
Turriff United

the poll at the top of the thread hints that our supporters could see Formartine miss out.

any thoughts who you want in?

Obviously its just me, but I'd have playing top division junior football would have been a condition of acceptance, even before applying.

I think the league are more than happy that ANYBODY wants to join. The juniors are a funny bunch and set so far in the dark ages, not a lot of them WANT to move up the leagues.

Very true, but there are hopes for a pyramid system in the future so setting the standard on the pitch as well as off it should be just as important I think. Perhaps new teams will get better in time, but would it not be like a team (consistantly) in the bottom half of the HFL applying to get into the SFL, although ticking most boxes re the stadia, funding, lighting, car park etc?

SFL don't really seem to be keen on taking in any more teams from the three senior leagues.....see below

Wow!! I did have my doubts about banks and I have to say i think the right clubs are in. I just wonder if the fall out from this will come back to haunt the clubs who voted against them.

The point Im making is that the clubs knocked back the ONLY club who could have played in the league tomorrow. If you happy with no fans, a 2 sided ground with car parking a nightmare and no pubs Very Happy Very Happy
